Carplog Privacy Policy

Carplog ("we", "our", "us") operates the Carplog mobile application ("App"). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

Data We Collect

• Account data: email address, username, display name, profile photo. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes — never in plain text.
• Catch & session data: lake name, swim, fish weights, rig/bait notes, catch photos, GPS coordinates (only when you choose to use the GPS feature), session times, weather conditions at time of logging (temperature, wind speed & direction, pressure, humidity, cloud cover, moon phase).
• Social data: follows, likes, and comments you make within the App.
• Subscription data: your subscription tier and expiry date. All payment processing is handled by Apple App Store or Google Play — we never receive or store your payment card details.
• Analytics data: aggregated statistics derived from your catch history (e.g. best wind direction, most productive month). These are computed server-side from data you have already provided and are only visible to you.

How We Use Your Data

• To operate and improve the Carplog service.
• To display your catches in your public or followers-only feed.
• To generate personalised AI coaching insights and bite prediction scores from your catch history and local weather data (Premium and Premium+ subscribers only).
• To enforce subscription plan limits.
• We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

Weather Data

When you log a catch or start a session, the App may request your approximate location to fetch current weather conditions from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a free and open-source weather API. Your coordinates are sent directly from your device to Open-Meteo — we do not log your raw GPS coordinates unless you explicitly save them to a session. Photo & Media Storage

Photos you upload are stored on Microsoft Azure servers (UK/EU region). You can delete individual catches and associated photos at any time from within the App.

Voice Recognition

If you use the voice command feature, audio is processed on-device using the operating system's speech recognition service. We do not receive or store your audio recordings.

Data Sharing

We share your data only with:

• Microsoft Azure — for hosting and file storage.
• Open-Meteo — for weather data (your coordinates only, no account information).
• Apple / Google — for payment processing and push notifications.

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing support@carplog.co.uk. We will process requests within 30 days.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Deleted accounts and all associated catches, photos, and social data are purged within 30 days of deletion.

Children

Carplog is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
